Family of Chickens
Rawridge Artist Linda Hensman is participating in the popular county-wide arts event, Devon Open Studios, for the first time this year.
It is the largest showcase for artists in the county and Linda will be joining hundreds of artists opening their doors for 16 days from 6th – 21st September.
Linda is looking forward to her part in the event by opening her studio in Rawridge. Linda began painting at school and then continued after having her family, beginning with water colours and then experimenting with mixed media. Since moving to East Devon in 2010 Linda now mainly uses natural fibres in collage on wood and canvas to give her paintings a rustic look. For example, in her chicken, pheasant, geese and bird pictures she uses feathers, and in her farmyard animals she uses sheep’s wool and a combination of hair and palm fibres. Linda will have examples of each method on show and will offer workshops for the first time.
Visiting Devon Open Studios is enormously informative because you can see at a glance how the artist works and have the chance to speak to them directly about the creative process. The interaction between artists and viewer creates opportunities that support every stage of artistic production and development.
Linda is looking forward to the show and hopes that Devon Open Studios will help raise her profile. Free to the public, the event provides a unique chance to see the new work.
